About Stump Cabin
Take a step back in time…
Nestled in the valley near Moorefield, West Virginia, Stump Cabin is like a trip back in time to simpler days. The property is a must-see for anyone wondering what life was like in the untamed frontier of the mid-1700. Until recently, it was widely held that Stump Cabin was built around 1746 by Michael Stump(f) I. In 2016, a core study was performed by Historic Timbers Project on the cabin logs to reveal that they were felled in the Fall of 1784 and Spring of 1785. The home was built by Leonard Stump, son of Michael Stump I, in 1785. The oldest log in the cabin that was core-dated started growing as a tree in 1560!
